10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning isn’t always exciting for a lot of us. But it is important. As the winter come to an end and we begin looking forward to spring, something within us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve collected over the winter.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of a home?
The exterior of your house could likely use a little refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the curb appeal of your house in Smyrna, and, even more important, will provide much-needed care and maintenance that will save you money over the years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the ideal time of year to clean your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris pile up during the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest during the spring, making a mess in your gutters if they aren’t properly cleaned.

Plus, pests and critters are looking for places to build their homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help to prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Residential window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows will not cause you much of a problem, but second and third floor windows are tougher to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a hard job, and it will require a lot of supplies, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the recommended way to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. That means you will want to pressure wash your house too!

Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your home, outdoor furniture, concrete patios, porches and walkways with very little effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they won’t permanently stain your house, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem silly since you’ll be driving on it, but, a clean, well-cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.

A professional pressure washing company can do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it’s pavement, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel border to your home’s driveway to really make it stand out!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio probably gets the most use during the summer, so it’s easy to forget about it during the winter since you aren’t doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio could be in pretty rough condition the first time you go onto it in the spring.

Soap and water – and a little elbow grease – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or algae, you need to think about a more serious option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Algae and moss are typical roof issues in Smyrna. While you’re cleaning the exterior of your house, it’s an excellent time to pressure clean your home’s roof too, but you’ll have to use a different method than the one you use for most of your home’s exterior.

If you start to see streaks on your home’s roof, algae is probably the cause. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be wiped off of shingles, nor can you power wash the roof of your house. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your home’s roof.

The best course of action for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach solution and let it sit. This mixture will kill any organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Clean up the Front

The front of your house is going to be what most people passing by see, so try to make the best impression you can for visitors and for yourself! Returning home to a well-maintained exterior will immediately improve your day, and it will motivate you to spend more time outdoors.

Clean your porch with detergent and water or a good power wash. Wipe cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and consider painting it for a bright look! Clean overlooked areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Garden Tools

You will soon be spending a lot more time outside, so spring is an excellent time to organize whatever you’ll need for outdoor work.

Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment need to all have an exact place outside your house – somewhere that it is safe from harsh weather and out of sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore to anyone. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the exterior of your house much more during the time of year when you spend the most time outdoors.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your lawn, trees and garden bushes can make a big impact on the look of your house.

Get rid of weeds near your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you might be planting in the future and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all the bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After sitting unused for several months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but even worse they can also make you and your family ill.

Wipe it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you do not leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.
