METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing gum from concrete depends on the gum’s age and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left not long ago and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we might be able to get it off by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving consistency compared to a gooey and stringy glob. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper under the gum. Next we move the scraper very slowly under the gum and the whole piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above method is only possible with brand new gum.

When we remove gum that has turned black, or is already smashed deep down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we won’t use high pressure because that might ruin the surface of the concrete!

These types of surfaces can be destroyed a lot easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure.
